This is an eco-friendly house designed by Bercy Chen Studio, a modern house that inspired by one of the oldest housing typologies in North America, the Native American Pit House. The Pit House design that adapted into green roof use earth’s mass to maintain thermal comfort throughout the year, allowing Edgeland House to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This house is broken up into two separate volumes, one volume accommodates the sleeping areas and the other one used as a social zones. Its glass walls allowing natural light to enter the house whiles provide a good connection between indoors and outdoors. Located on a rehabilitated brownfield site, this house tries to heal the land and ameliorate the scars of the site’s industrial past. To get a maximum energy efficiency, it combines hydronic heating and a green roof. Modern but natural and eco-friendly, what a great house to live.
