This is a contemporary house that has natural views on its garden. Not only the garden, the whole house has a natural elements. This house is a project of expansion, interior renovation, and furnishing of an old cottage, designed by Cary Bernstein. They expand the house and keeps the existing footprint to protect the mature gardens, make a nice combination between a modern architectural with old and classic construction. On third floor they provide windows with open vertical core of the central stair increase to allows the natural daylight entering the house, reducing energy consumption.
The combination between natural, modern and classic element is really great. “Stone slabs used in the fireplace surround and counters are solidly vernacular while their square-edged profiles are decidedly modern. Rhythmic and refined metal railings, trellis details and chimney cladding provide a crisp counterpoint to the natural wood and stone forms. The variegated pattern of the new, FSC-certified cedar siding recalls the existing, interior wood paneling, adding a subtle historic texture to the modern exterior profile of the expanded building.
