This is a clean and contemporary house that designed for visiting artist to stay in. Located on a narrow inner city allotment in Melbourne, Australia, this house has two bedrooms plus an extra study and a private subterranean gallery. This three storey house is designed by Nervegna Reed and PH Architects. The second level used as entry and living spaces that flow around a courtyard. On this level, the placement of objects, materials and functions have a layout like a pinball machine. Each surface of this level hinting at a multitude of possible routes that one could take through the building. On the basement level there is a concrete light shaft / skylight which also functions as a seat and a sculpture podium.
“The house works a bit like a Rorschach test, enabling people to read into it what they like, whether it be a virtual image of a ‘?’, or a number ‘2’ (the front of this house), or other architectural images which inhabit the surfaces and spaces.”
